I am a Pacific Northwest based nature photographer. I am fortunate to live in the foothills very close to Mount Rainier National Park. I strive to communicate the fragility of nature, and that the actions of our example really do matter. Whether walking through the forest, long-distance backpacking, landscape photography or wildlife, I am motivated to share this amazing experience. Nature is indifferent; it doesn't care whether I am there or not. For this reason, I want to make as little impact as possible and experience the environment around me as authentic.
My Images
From time to time, I capture a special moment or a unique experience. It is those moments I want to share with you.
Landscapes
John Muir said, “Most people are on the world, not in it.” Landscapes offer of way of unique expression. Landscapes are a way to communicate symmetry, simplicity, contrasts, shapes and pleasing combinations of all. I want my landscape images to stir an emotion or offer a unique window into the nature we all share.
Wildlife
I have more recently discovered the emotions of capturing an animal in its natural environment. I have always had an appreciation for wildlife, and using a long-lens to capture them without any of my own influence is very special to me.
MY GEAR
PHOTO / VIDEO
I think that everyone needs to use whatever photography and videography gear they are comfortable with. There is too much emphasis placed on brand and less on the creative process. That being said, I use a selection of Sony Mirrorless Cameras and adaptable lenses to create my photos and videos.
WINTER / EXPEDITION USE
When your life depends on the robustness of your gear, it is important to be selective and to be detail oriented. My gear list outlines some of the gear that I use in the winter and when environmental conditions warrant performance over weight.
SUMMER / TRAIL USE
There is also safety in weight. When putting in up to 20 or more miles per day, every ounce and every gram count. In this case, I strive to have multi-functional gear that is lightweight but not sacrifice performance and safety. It is critical to always have the 10 essential systems - know them and know how to use them effectively.
